Wonder Puss are incredibly agile Octopuses, able to move across the sea bed very fast in a sort of running action with their 8 legs all flying around. They do keep low to the ground if they’re not overly disturbed. They only fly up into the water column if they feel agitated. I watched this one for a few minutes before it literally disappeared before my very eyes into the sand! Not a hole just straight into the sand. It must have made the sand part as it descended. I couldn’t quite believe it.
Unlike other octopus they have much smaller bodies and longer legs. Their eyes stick up out of their heads which perhaps gives them better vision. They are a beautiful brown and white striped colour which stands out in the environment. It was lucky to see this wonderful species of octopus whilst l was diving in Lembeh Strait in 2014.
